Laverna
Origin: Latin, French
Meaning: the name of the Roman goddess of thieves and the underworld. Though there's no clear etymology to her name, it could be related to Latin latere (robber); lavare (referring to bath thieves); or from levare (shop lifters).
Laverna could also be a variant form of Laverne, derived from a French place name derived from a Gaulish word vern meaning "alder", though it's also been associated with Latin vernus meaning "of spring" or "springlike".
Variants:
- Laverne
- Lavern (a unisex name)
Masculine forms:
- LaVern
- Lavern
