Wildred

Origin: English

Meaning: this seems to be a very rare name but I'm guessing it's made up of Germanic element wil (will, desire) and Anglo-Saxon dred/þryð (strength) so essentially meaning "desiring strength" or "willful strength".

The first time I heard this name was on TV show Major Crimes where a female character was named Wildred, though the first time I heard it I mistook it for Mildred. It was such an unusual name that I had to look it up. I found a few bearers of the name, mostly old women, though it was also used by a few men as well.
