Verna

Origin: English, Latin, Italian

Meaning: the feminine form of Vernon, derived from a Norman surname and place name meaning "alder" from Gaulish word vern referring to someone who lived near a grove of alders.

Verna has also been associated with the Latin word vernus meaning "spring".

Verna is also an Italian surname though its etymology is unclear, although it likely seems to have roots in Latin, either from verno meaning "young in heart" or verna meaning "house servant".
