Alden
Origin: English
Meaning: a surname derived from Old English given name Ealdwine meaning "old friend" from English elements eald (old) and wine (friend).
Spelled Aldan, it's either the Scottish form of Aldwin or a variant form of Old Norse Haldane/Halfdan meaning "half-Dane". Aldan is also the name of a river in the Sakha Republic in Russia, as well as the name of a few places in that area. I'm not sure if it's either a variant form of Alden or has a different background altogether.
Variants:
- Aldwyn
- Aldwin
- Alvin
- Elvin
- Aldan
