Bromeliad
Origin: English
Meaning: the name of a tropical American plant, used and cultivated as food though now commonly used as a houseplants. It was named in honor of Swedish botanist Olaf Bromel. The closest I could find to the surname's origin and meaning is that it might possibly be from an English surname composed of Old English elements brom (broom) and halh (hollow) meaning "broom hollow" or "hollow where the broom grows", broom being a type of gorse (a flower).
It's pronounced bro-MILL-ee-ad.
