Meaning: the name was first used by Shakespeare in his play Cymbeline (1609), believed to have been based on Innogen, the name of a legendary queen of Britain in the 12th century, and that the Imogen spelling came about as a misprint. The name is believed to be based on Gaelic inghean which could mean "maiden, girl" or "daughter".
