Meaning: the name of a deep black color, as well as the name of a type of gemstone from Old French jaiet derived from Greek gagates meaning "jet".
Jet is also a Dutch feminine name, used as a nickname for given names Henriette (the feminine form of Henry meaning "home ruler") and Mariette (a Dutch diminutive of Maria from Mary whose meaning is debated; it could mean "sea of bitterness", "rebellious" or "to be disobedient", and "wished for child", though it could have also originated as an Egyptian name from mry or mr meaning "beloved" or "love").
