Origin: Akkadian

Meaning: a variant of Belshazzar, the Hebrew form of an Akkadian name Bel-sarra-usur meaning "Ba'al protect the king" or "Ba'al safeguard the king", Ba'al being the chief god in Phoenician mythology and all across Mesopotamia.
