Alcides

Pinterest

Origin: Greek

Meaning: a Latinized form of Greek Alkeides meaning "strength" from Greek alke (strength) and ides, a Greek patronymic suffix meaning "son of", so essentially meaning "son of the strong one".

In Greek mythology, Alcides was the original name of the Greek hero Heracles, though he was later renamed in an effort to appease Hera'a wrath (which clearly didn't work).

Variants:
  • Alcide (Italian, French)
  • Alkeides (Greek)
